Photographs from TibetFest 2, Litchfield, CT, October 7, 8 and 9, 2006. TibetFest is a three day celebration of Tibetan history and culture. The driving force behind TibetFest is to assist refugee Tibetans in their ongoing struggle to save their ancient culture from extinction. Fifty years ago China invaded the independent nation of Tibet using the historically inaccurate excuse that Tibet had always been a region of China. After the invasion the Chinese have methodically tried to eliminate Tibetan culture, destroying thousands of monasteries and murdering monks and nuns. During the past half century more than a million Tibetans have died as a result of the Chinese occupation. The public display of photographs of the Dalai Lama is banned in Tibet.
