TibetFest
Monks      Photographs from TibetFest held at the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield, CT, USA, July 30th and 31st, 2005. TibetFest is a two day celebration of Tibetan history and culture. The driving force behind TibetFest is to assist refugee Tibetans in their ongoing struggle to save their ancient culture from extinction. Fifty years ago China invaded the independent nation of Tibet using the historically inaccurate excuse that Tibet had always been a region of China. After the invasion the Chinese have methodically tried to eliminate Tibetan culture, destroying thousands of monasteries and murdering monks and nuns. During the past half century more than a million Tibetans have died as a result of the Chinese occupation. The public display of photographs of the Dalai Lama is banned in Tibet. For more information and how you can help please click on "Tibet Links" near the bottom of this page.

As part of TibetFest the Drepung Gomang Monastery presents the Sacred Art Tour which focuses on sacred arts and the community. As stated in the Sacred Art Tour website, the mission of the tour is three-fold: "the monks sincerely wish to communicate a message of peace, wisdom and compassion to heal our minds in these troubled times; second, they are eager to introduce the arts and culture of Tibet to a North American Audience; third, the monastery wishes to generate funds for the Food Foundation and the Health Fund, two programs necessary for the preservation of the mission of Drepung Gomang Monastery."
